A quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides (or edges) and four vertices or corners. The origin of the word "quadrilateral" is the two Latin words quadri, a variant of four, and latus, meaning "side."
In this chapter, you have studied the seven special types of quadrilaterals shown at the right. Notice that each shape has all
the properties of the shapes linked above it. For instance, squares have the properties of rhombuses,
rectangles, parallelograms, and quadrilaterals.
